It’s that time again. You know the one…the most wonderful time of the year! My preschoolers and I (mostly I) are ready to start decking halls and rocking around our Christmas tree!

I love theming out our morning time and is there any happier theme than Christmas? Probably not. Here’s what we’ve got to look forward to during our Christmas morning time (if you’re not familiar with a homeschool morning time, check out my post on it here).

Christmas Morning Time Plans

Week 1-November 27-December 1
  • Scripture memory work: Isaiah 9:6 (we’ll learn this over two weeks; it’s a long verse!)
  • Scripture Reading: Jesse Tree passages. We were given a lovely set of Jesse Tree ornaments and will be reading the corresponding scripture for one ornament each day from November 28 to December 25.
  • Christmas Carol: Come Thou Long Expected Jesus
  • Picture book: The Friendly Beasts. This is technically another Christmas carol, just in picture book form. We’re singing the lyrics instead of reading them.
  • Poetry: My First Christmas Book. So, this isn’t the best “poetry” representation but my kids are 3 & 2…they like the simple poems with pretty pictures. There’ll be time for the good stuff in a few years 🙂
Week 2-December 4-8
  • Scripture memory work: Isaiah 9:6 (hello again!)
  • Scripture reading: Jesse Tree passages.
  • Christmas Carol: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. My plan is to sing three verses, but we’ll see…
  • Picture Book: A pop-up nativity story. We don’t have other pop-up books so I think this will really be a hit!
  • Poetry: My First Christmas Book
  • Extra listening: Excerpts from Handel’s Messiah. You can find this oratory streaming on Amazon Prime if you don’t have a copy.
Week 3: December 11-15
  • Scripture memory work: Micah5:2
  • Scripture reading: Jesse Tree passages
  • Christmas Carol: O Come, All Ye Faithful
  • Picture Book: Legend of the Poinsettia
  • Poetry: My First Christmas Book
  • Listening: Excerpts from Handel’s Messiah.
Week 4: December 18-22 (and beyond!)
  • Scripture memory work: Luke 2:11
  • Scripture reading: Jesse Tree passages
  • Christmas carol: Good Christian Men Rejoice
  • Picture Book: The Animal’s Christmas Eve
  • Poetry: My First Christmas Book
  • Listening: Excerpts from the Nutcracker Suite

That’s a look at our month’s morning time! Most of this will be as I’ve listed it here, but things like the picture books and our poetry selections are subject to change (like one of those weeks, I’ll probably sub out the Christmas book with The Night Before Christmas for our poetry). It depends on how into my choices we actually end up being. Everything looks fabulous on paper…

Also, anything I have listed with “Listening” may (and probably will) happen at other times during our morning. I can only keep them at the table so long after they finish their oatmeal, and I don’t require them (at 3 & 2) to do much active listening. Background music while they play or eat a snack is  just perfect!

Here’s to a festive, happy, homeschool morning!
